Driftless 03:59
As we bent our backs to the setting sun pulling at our labors like an amputee there was no time to lose but we wasted away gaining nothing by our selfish security The poisons and the passions were dressed up the same and we couldn't tell the taste of our own lost cause The things that we cherished were red with the stain and our rose-colored glasses filtered it out our rose-colored glasses filtered it But we were changed in a moment that was imminent and true like the grace that we received on a Sunday All was revealed in the clear light of the moon we finally admitted we were driftless Faithful is the man who believes through the storm and faithful is the prayer of the repentant How often is our stubbornness a worthy thing and how often are we just apathetic? And when do we find that this sedentary life is better for the land than for the landed? Bruised is the country that the glacier descends but rich is the soil that survives it rich is the soil that survives it But we were changed in a moment that was imminent and true like the grace that we received on a Sunday All was revealed in the clear light of the moon we finally admitted we were driftless

Newfoundland 04:16
The thing i remember the best is the crush of your lips and your face... it comes in a distant second and you couldn't miss that I felt like this. But how you tried. It was a filthy night in July when you slipped your willing hands in mine but I let them slide right by I don't even know why... You said it was pronounced "Newfoundland" and calmly explained how the waves are broken in the sand. You said that you were, too. i was an island to you and you were some desolate sea and though you were so strong the tide pulled you away from me.

The phone lines are down again, the coffee is cold again. The beautiful people have all gone south and they've left you alone to clean up. You're living the life where nothing really happens not that you'd want it to anyway Cause you're not the type who's looking for adventure you're not the kind who likes dreaming big dreams. The restaurant's closing too soon you're walking through the empty streets back to your room and the music is up way too loud when you get home you're hungry and tired
6.
Harmless wings Mother with the broken eggs Garden-singer You built a nest for everything Sharpened beak I heard you in the early spring Eyes so deep You could have shown me anything They shoot mourning doves for less than this, my love And now they've trained their sights on us It's open season in the place we call our home every glance a bullet every kiss draws blood And even though it isn't safe every night we lay awake hoping that the day will bring a resolution They shoot mourning doves for less than this, my love and now they've trained their sights on us There's not much meat, but for convenience sake they come here to train their sights on us.
